At least 7 people were killed and 11 injured in Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) artillery shelling on Abu-Shouk camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and a neighbouring market in al-Fashir, capital of North Darfur State, the camp’s Emergency Room said.

The shelling came within the ongoing RSF siege of al-Fashir since May, last year, in a bid to control the only major provincial capital in Darfur Region still under the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Last week, the RSF issued a 48 hour ultimatum for the SAF and allied forces to evict the city.

On Friday, the paramilitary targeted the only operating hospital in al-Fashir, the Saudi Hospital, with drone attack killing 70 patients and co-patients.

The escalating violence in the city prompted 1.7 million civilians to flee out of the city according to the UN statistics.

Three IDPs camps in North Darfur experience famine including Abu Shouk camp and other parts of the state are expected to witness famine by May.

The armed conflict between the SAF and RSF which erupted in April 2023 has devastated the country with tens of thousands dead, millions displaced and millions on the brink of famine.
