At least 45 civilians have been summarily executed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allies during the past two days in a number of Khartoum State’s areas, rights groups revealed.
Sudanese Emergency Lawyers group said video clips showed some members of SAF and its allied groups carrying out summary execution against war captives and civilians in Khartoum’s south and east neighborhoods.
These execution operations were being carried out in coincidence with a comprehensive campaign in the social media led by pro-SAF activists to provide a cover for these operations, the group said.
Emergency Lawyers considered these violations, which are being justified as crimes of collaboration with the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a blatant violation of national and international laws, fueling hate speech and threatening the social fabric.
Repeating such crimes, which have been committed after the recapture of Madani – capital of al-Gezira State – proved that these crimes are being carried out as a systematic policy aiming at terrorizing the civilians and spreading fear, and hence they are considered crimes against humanity according to article 7 of Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Emergency Lawyers said.
Among those who have been summarily executed were civilians affiliated to certain geographical areas, members of the Resistance Committees and supervisors of the voluntary Communal Kitchens.
The atrocities have been locally and internationally denounced since eruption of the two-year war between the SAF and RSF which claimed lives of more than 150,000 civilians, displaced 15 million and put most of the population on the verge of famine.
On Monday, member of the American Congress Gregory Meeks reintroduced comprehensive legislation to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan “we cannot allow the conflict in Sudan –the world’s largest humanitarian crisis – to be forgotten. Our legislation holds perpetrators of the horrific violence in Sudan accountable, mandates a comprehensive U.S. government strategy on protecting civilians and achieving a sustainable peace, and bans major U.S. arms sales to any country supplying weapons to either the RSF or SAF.”
